Shame it's using the portal

It's a pity this is only allowed to use the portal's music, because frankly there is very little in there that's half as cool as Soil, Nirvana, Nickelback, or anything else that's licensed. But you could have minimised the problem by biasing the randomness towards the ratings, so things that are rated 4.25 are played more than stuff at 1. Also, the inability to limit genres is a real shame, it's clear that the selection process is based solely on the number and zero else. You could double how useful this is if you made the selection process better. I think I'll stick to last.fm for now.

EON responds:

Firstly, the whole point of this is to showcase the audio portal, not to provide just another radio broadcasting licensed music. Also this system doesn't allow searching by genre/artist etc. It just loads the sing by track ID.

Pfft

If you're making a serious game, odds are it'll take a bit longer than a couple of lunches. If it's a practise, fine, but there's no need to submit it to NG.

Needs a hell of a lot added; better graphics, better physics, more intelligent AI that's prone to mistakes, faster gameplay, and the list goes on. I saw it get smaller and such, but the fact I could do no more than watch it bounce back from my paddle with no possibility of me hitting it to an area they can't get at a different speed or anything made this really irritating.

shadowford responds:

the ai is prone to mitakes. He can lose often. If the ball didn't speed up or get smaller, the game would never end until YOU lost.

Ooh, great AI

I love the AI in this. I tried training an artificial one up and it seems to be a great fighter now; a small one was chasing it from behind so it drove in a straight line fast then reversed and destroyed the midget. Did you intend to have the AI get better the higher the kills?
Killed: 16 and growing fast.

WallArcher responds:

Nope, but their damage increases with each kill. Actually, there is no AI in this. Like the title says, 'Gravity based movement'. Their front end is always facing in their direction of movement, and whenever an element gets ahead of another one, it will eventually start falling back because of it's gravitational pull, making it look like sophisticated AI.

I love it!

Wow, you wasted a whole evening of mine! This is tons better than raiden X and should be very top of the portal! *ahem* normally I'm a very strict reviewer, but as here I can't be nasty I shall be constructive instead.

With the gameplay I find it very entertaining and I like the fact that there are no homing missiles for the lazys, so it always requires actually moving, and dodging bullets ect. I like the fact that your lives respawn, so that better players don't get it easier in later levels (as in raiden), and I like the fact that you ditch the "pick up powerups and get into places where you are easily shot" for "buy your weapons sensibly and switch between at will".

The graphics are nice and the shading is done well. I'm not sure if the stylish b+w is better than the clear & fun full colour, but it looks nice at the moment so I won't complain about it (I had fun messing with invert colours).

The sound is a little annoying and I favoured weapons which made almost no sounds because the weapons are pretty bad, and yet I didn't turn sound right off because there is a certain thrill that only comes with a big explosion when killing a boss. The music complimented it and didn't take over, so that was pretty good.

Style finally is awesome. I like the setup, the menus, and as said the b+w works well. I really can't say anything to add that would make a sequel better, it's spot on as it is.

Cool

Wow, I'm impressed. How did you get the car game 3d on a flash based site?

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

it was an engine that he got from some other site, and then used that engine (it still is flash) to make his game

Kester thinks it makes him look intelligent to talk in third person.
